Inddor Bowls kicks off!

Last week a few of the Braves faithful were to be found rolling the old indoor bowls mats out at Bravetown community hall at 6pm. 6 turned up for the relaunch of what promises to become a Bravetown social institution on a Friday night. Big up to Crouchy and Maz who helped Luigi lug the 500kg bowls mats up from the dungeon. Lochie, Josh and the lovely English rose Lucy O'Reilly (no nickname yet) attended the gala occasion.

Be there 6-7.30pm Friday nights, or you start on the bench:)

Bemboka Braves v Tathra Seagulls 27.5.07

The mighty Bemboka Braves outfit traveled down to sunny Tathra on Sunday to tackle the Tathra Seagulls Football Team for the second week in a row. Buoyed somewhat by their first win of the season on the previous weekend, the Braves were nonetheless wary of a full strength and fresh Tathra team that is never easy to beat(or out talk) at home. The Tathra pitch is in very good condition this year (unlike some of the Braves players), ensuring the game would feature quality football for the Braves faithful.

Luigi breaking from the wall to cop one in the back..

It was the Braves who settled first with Tathra continually threatening on the break- gloating Canetoad (big Matty Ellwood), and his comedy backline able to keep it safe in defence. The Braves were fortunate to be in front after a ball whipped in from the right was accurately redirected into the net by a Tathra defender. Cheers for that son. At that stage they deserved to be in front after picking a disallowed goal out of the net and their South American import missing a golden opportunity in front of goal, Russ Hill style.

The game then settled into a steady rhythm, with the Braves being denied another goal that had crossed the line before half time after pressure on the Tathra keeper, who had another entertaining game throughout.

After a fairly forgettable first half, the second half began and the tight battle recommenced, the Braves becoming frustrated by giving away the ball too easily in attack. Tathra deservedly drew level after some uncharacteristic flimsy defence from the Braves backline. The Braves pulled ahead with a Joshy Mac goal off the side of his baby face from another pinpoint corner from Graham Barnet (who is becoming quite the David Beckham these days- tatts and all). Shame about the late tackle he wore which was spotted by the linesman but no action was taken following a discussion with the man in the middle. We can cope with playing the whistle, but late shite needs to be punished- no one wants to go home injured like that. Speedy recovery Becks!

The absorbing battle continued, Tathra pressing hard and winning free kicks and long throws in the Braves defensive third of the field. From a Tathra long throw, the Braves showed Marx Brothers like comedy in their defending (wish we had a camera on that one!), to allow the ball to roll steadily across to one of their strikers who stroked it in at the far post from about 15 centimetres.

Game on! Another disallowed goal by the Braves ensured both teams went at it hammer and tongs for the win, with the incessant chat from one Tathra player irritating even his own team ('wish hed shut up, he's pissing us off too' a quote from a Tathra defender who should be playing AFL), as well as the referee. With less than five minutes to go, a break down the right of the Tathra area saw a cross looped in towards a couple of the Braves tall timber men. Floating too far for the big men, it was the mighty Pip Pearson who latched onto the cross, volleying across the face of the goal to make the Ole Onion Bag bulge and give the Braves a deserved win from a thoroughly absorbing second half of football.

Not one the Braves would have been satisfied with a point from, so bloody well done to the boys for sticking at it and a big up to the ressie's who came along to help out for the day- great job boys!

Next week is down at Merimbula! Their Ressie's are doing ok, but they have been struggling for numbers in firsts. You can only but think they've gotta sort that as the season goes along, so the Firsts will really have to be on it again. Hopefully we might have a little more luck in front of goal and come away with a double from both senior teams!

A great game and a second win on the bounce for the Braves. Another valiant showing from the Eagles, who as always were very hard to breakdown at home and good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Go you Braves!

Maz O'Reilly

Current Bemboka legend and part time Mayor of the town, Maz loves ducking under headers, would live at the Pub if Dave let him, loves Commodores, Scott's pies, travelling abroad (just ask him where he's been), has an amazing(ly bad) work ethic, and loves his nephews (sometimes).
Is the current penalty taker for the Braves, and hopes that Luigi(Dunko), keeps diving in the area to keep his goal tally ticking over.
Good luck to you son!

Lochie O'Reilly

An intelligent young Brave, playing in a slightly older age group. Lochie has been playing up front with Jordan Barry, but looks set to drop into the midfeild to add stability and a little more balance to the U11's attack.
Unfortunately supports Chelsea in the English Premier League and readily agrees that money buys a title-sometimes! Favourite player is Didier Drogba, fave food is his Aunty's Pizza (Bombala Pizza), likes a bit of Linkin Park, Hinder and Akon, his uncle likes Mrs Collins and all the other teachers at school:)
As of May 24, Lochie has scored 3 goals in all grades so far and has really been enjoying his football.

Liverpool defeated in Champions League Final:(

The Champions League Final was played this morning in the Olympic Stadium in Athens in front of a bunch of tossers rich enough to afford to go. I would have loved company, but unfortunately could not get Pez out of bed at 4.15 when I was banging on his door.
Liverpool were dominant in the first half, the possession 60\40 to the good Guys. Once again as seen all to often this season, they were left unrewarded due to the lack of a quality finisher. Hopefully they'll get one in the off season now Robbie Fowler has retired and hopefully Steve Finan will get sold to someone shit enough to want him..
Good to see Harry Kool on, despite not doing much for the last 25mins.

Anyways, the final score 2-1 to AC Milan- I suppose you have to hand it to the most corrupted team in Europe for the last 30 years, they do know how to win big matches. Their chairman (Italian President), Berlusconi should be in jail instead of celebrating smugly with his bloody team.
He'll get his.
Bloody Italians..

Matchday 20.7.07

Bemboka Braves Football Reveiw 20.5.07

The Bemboka Braves FC strode out onto an almost immaculate Brave Park on Sunday thanks to the hard work of Dave Allen and the rest of the Bemboka Rugby league supporters who hosted the Roosters on Saturday.

The under 8's had an entertaining 3-3 draw with Merimbula Blue and Mick O'Reilly's Under 9's had another hard fought 2-2 draw with Merimbula in their age group. In the Under 11's, the new score board (nice work Dave), was kept ticking over, but the Braves were no match for a solid Tathra outfit on the day going down 6-0.

The long sunny day of footballing action continued when the Braves Ressie's tackled the much fancied Tathra outfit. The Braves took the lead in the second half after one of the Tathra defenders was unlucky to deflect Kev 'Headley' Barnett's nod on into his own goal. Tathra continued to press, and were deserved scorers of an equaliser and despite really pushing for a winner, the Bemboka defenders and Big Matty in goal were able to keep them at bay and hold on for a solid draw and a point. Another stirring performance from Russ 'The Muss' Hill who shows absolutely no signs of slowing down at the age of 61- a true club stalwart and gentleman, even if he misses the occasional open goaland has the unerring habit of having the ball kicked into his head.. Sterling job lads, and we will sort the squad soon, so don't panic! The Braves Ressie's are still undefeated this year, and becoming the masters of the one point game of late.

A slightly nervous Braves first grade went into battle next with a Tathra still not having secured a win after 3 rounds. A quick team huddle and battle cry had the braves focused on the job at hand, and Tathra thinking they were at an American Football match. A number of the Tathra Titans were backing up from reserve grade for the game- good thing too, as a number of the Braves had been battling the evil Manflu bug thru the week .
Bemboka were able to settle first and made some good use of the ball, holding on to possessions well and moving the ball wide in attack. They were rewarded after 10 mins when they were awarded a penalty after Luigi O'Reilly took a tumble in the area after being fouled, with Maz tucking it away well. Tathra were competing well, despite a lack of possession early and pressed the Bemboka defence on a number of occasions. It was the Braves however, who scored again when Luigi was lucky to nod an errant shot from the oldest First Grader Mick O'Reilly past the stranded keeper. Luigi nipped in from a magic Barneycorner to beat the Keeper at the near post, and then clipped a neat chip over the hapless keeper to make it 4. The Braves esteemed manager, Josh 'Glory Hunter' McPaul slipped thru to lob the keeper to round out the win 5-0 for the Braves. Some real nice football from the Braves and the Tathra boys again must be commended for backing up and giving their all and credit to them for their efforts. Josh 'Crouchie' Green won the Maltese 'Falcon' award with his impression of a tall tree being felled with a cannon ball. A decent dose of whiplash, some concussion and some fresh seam marks being left when he bravely charged down a viciuosly struck free kick with his face!

For the Braves, Goalkeeper Matty Schwarzer really shone, his communication first class and commanded his 18 yard box, Genaro 'Gattuso' Collins was a solid as a brick outhouse in defense, even if he was the only defender at times. The middle of the mids were solid, the wide men keen to get invloved. A very nice way to earn 3 points for the first time this season for the Braves, but this Sunday's game, this time down at the 'House of Pain' in Tathra against a fresh Titans lineup might prove differently.

Go you Braves!

Wolumla v Braves 7.5.07

Game 2 for the Braves, and a full strength lineup for both teams!
Ressies were able to sneak away with a 1-0 win with a darting finish from legendary FSCFA goalscorer Pip Pearson. Took the great man's tally to 3(?) for the season after 2 in the first round against Bega at Brave Park. It was a typically tight and physical clash between the two clubs, which could have gone either way. Special mentions go to Russ 'the Muss' Hill, Nick 'no nickname as of yet' Constable (shouldn't be that hard).

Firsts went into the game against the Wolumla Firsts after a full month off owing to the draw. They looked good, but some were a little dehydrated from Marg Collins' 70th birthday party the evening before, which was generally well attended and celebrated by the 'young and bulletproof faction' of the Braves lineup. No time for moaning though, as the action soon hotted up and the Braves knew (as always), that Wolumla were up for the fight. The Braves were on the board first with Graheme Barnett sitting a perfect cross on his Brother's newly prodigious head and he buried the header! Seasoned Braves Strikers beware!
After the goal, the Braves Kinda gave up rolling the ball around to people who had called for it, and as a consequence possession became a bit panicky and the ball was given away cheaply a number of times. As a result, Wolumla hit back before the break, the author forgetting the exact details of how they snuck past the solid wall that is the Braves Backline.

A quick cameo as celebrity hit man after the break was Fox's highlight for the day which ended with him philosophical about his aggression on the pitch at Touch Footy on the following Monday. As a role model for Young Braves, Fox is due to make a public apology on this Blog exclusively sometime in the next few years (when he gets a PC). Luigi O'Reilly, new recruit from the Liverpool academy (off season transfer), also showed a flash of aggression when he tiredly chopped one of the sprightly Wolumla midfeilders which resulted in a flash of yellow for him forst game back. At the time of print, no promise of an apology from O'Reilly on that one.

All in all, The Braves sorta just held on for the point by the final whistle- never a bad result out at the Bushrangers Home pitch, especially seeing as though they had set the feild up with land mines, glass, stones and tent spikes in strategic locations around the pitch for the unsuspecting Braves.

So a sneaky win for Ressie's and a fairly uninspiring draw for the Firsts leaves the Ressie's on top and the Firsts with 1 point from 2 games. Time for some practice passing and possession at training!

Go the Braves!
